The Blue Door

Last weekend I went to this new place. Its a small and relatively new place near Vivekananda Park. The interiors are simple and elegant.

Here is what we offered:
Cilantro fish
Price: Rs 275/-

It was very good. I think about 8 to 10 pieces were there. The taste was new and the fish was fresh and soft.

Chicken Mushroom in Wine Sauce
Price: Rs 365/-

Chicken and mushroom cooked in wine. It is served with parsley butter rice. The quantity is quite good and taste is very good.

Ayam Bali with Nasi Goreng Rice
Price: Rs 350/-
It has traditional Balinese chicken served with Indonesian rice. This was lip smacking and the quantity was huge.

Roast Lamb
Price: Rs 425/-
Has a good portion of roasted lamb served with mashed potato. The one who ordered it, said it was good.

Pork Rib
I don't think this was in the menu card, however the person taking the order suggested it. It looks absolutely delicious and was so indeed.

Prawn Satay with Garlic dip
Price : Rs 355/-
This dish tasted good but frankly speaking i was a bit disappointed by the size of the prawns.

Chicken Stroganoff
Price: Rs 275
It's a Russian dish with pieces of chicken in sauce and sour cream served with rice. It was good and creamy and quantity was very good.

Arabiata Chicken Spaghetti
Price: Rs 275/-
The quantity was huge. The taste was mind blowing. Its basically a dish consisting of spaghetti cooked with veges and chicken in red sauce. It comes with four slices of garlic bread.

Overall the food is great in taste and quantity. But one thing that this place needs to improve is it's time taken to serve.
I will give The Blue Door 4 out of 5 Stars

Codfather

By Amaleena

Hi friends,

Visited this place last weekend. It's a small place at Deshapriya Park. Has few tables inside. Also has outdoor seating arrangement. It was a Sunday and the restaurant was almost full. There was a group of people who were pretty loud and somewhat disturbing owing to the small area. However, i enjoyed the food and service was also fast and good.
Here is what we ordered:

Codfather Special Soup (Fish)

It's basically a thin soup with small chunks of fish and coriander. It has a flavour of lime and garlic. It is moderately spicy. I found this very good and definitely recommend this.

Chicken Steak

This is a chunk of grilled chicken served on a bed of mashed potato and above it was sauteed onion and mushroom topped with two sunny side up eggs. Served with boiled vegetables. The chunk of chicken is good in terms of quantity and taste. It was thoroughly cooked.

Baked Whole Bhetki

A whole bhetki is baked and served in a creamy gravy served on a bed of sauteed potatoes and served with sauteed vegetables. It was very very tasty and the portions was good.

Mexican Fish with Rice and Salsa

Firstly, the quantity is huge. Chunks of fish cooked in Mexican style is served along with mildly flavored rice and spicy salsa. the quantity is too good and so is the taste. It's moderately spicy and delicious.

Price:
Two soups, two chicken steaks, one whole baked bhetki and one Mexican fish with rice and salsa...and the bill was about 2k.

Pros of the place:
1. Prompt service
2. Very good food
3. Portions are good
4. Kitchen id kind of open and is clean :)
5. Serves drinks

Cons:
1. Pretty small place
2. Not really a place for family outing on a weekend.

My verdict:
****
4 out of 5 stars

Buddha Bites

Hi friends..!

Buddh Bites is a new place to hangout for those who love Chinese food. So here I am with one. Had visited Buddha Bites, Gariahat recently. overall the food is good so is the ambiance.

Here is my list of food that I had:

 Pan Fried Chilli Fish

Good taste but quite spicy.

Chinese Fried Rice

Hong Kong Fish

(fish tossed in spicy brown sauce)

Five Spice Chicken

(diced chicken tossed with Chinese spice)

Very new and tasty.

 Chicken Manchaw Soup

(this is half bowl)

It is very filling. quantity is good.

Mongolian Fried Chicken

Has 8 pieces. Is marinated and fried in batter. Is not that oily.

Sliced Chicken Pok Choy (sliced chicken cooked in light sauce with green veg)

Very light. Good for those who don't prefer spicy food

Moon Fan Fried Rice and Chilli Plum Fish

The rice has a nice flavour of star anise.

The fish was extremely good. It had a sweet and sour flavour.

Verdict:
Food is good in terms of taste and quantity. the meat they serve is soft and not overcooked. the quality of the fish is pretty good compared to most places. The ambiance and interior is well designed and gives a cozy feeling. However, there are not much number of tables so a prior reservation on weekends might be helpful. out of 5, i will give Buddha Bites

All the food stalls were selling different preparations of mango. There were stalls of mango juices, mango fruits from special mango gardens of murshidabad, mango fuchka, mango ice creams.

All the famous brands of sweet shops in kolkata were also selling varieties of mango sweets and deserts. Some of the yummy food items were like mango dilkhush, mango rabri, mango sandes, mango dahi, mango tart. People were enjoying their favourite fruit in different forms of sweets, deserts and snacks.

Go and visit mango festival in your nearby place and enjoy at fullest.

Abar Baithak - Review

By Chandrima

It's time for winter fun, winter hang out and winter style;) last weekend with my younger brother had a beautiful time , we spent the winter evening at one of our favorite hang out destinations, i.e., Abar Baithak at Jodhpur Park.

Its a new café in town but has become very famous shortly. The best part of Abar Baithak is its a celebrity cafe so you can catch up many of your favorite celebrities :D this café has become a favorite hangout place for all young people, middle aged group.
The ambiance is very peaceful, you can enjoy light Bengali music there with many indoor games like carom, chess etc. We often visit there each time with changing group, either family, friends, colleagues :D
FOOD
Abar Baithak is famous not only for its cozy environment but also for its yummy food :p
Its famous for its chicken platter which is a huge one and comes only for 165 rupees.
Abar Baithais also famous for its other dishes, starters, beverages,  and special mention to desserts :D few of my favorites are, raw mango frizz, brownie with ice cream,  their home made fresh muffins and pastries :D brings water to my mouth :p They make good fritata, sandwiches.

And if you are a chocolate lover like me, then this the best place for having a good hot chocolate.
The environment and the crowd you find there is good and irrespective of what time you visit the place, you will always be greeted with a smile. :)

Kolkata folks love Adda so nothing can be a better place than Abar Baithawith its great ambiance, great food and reasonable price.

I will rate this place 4.5 out of 5
Do visit this place if you haven't been there yet.

By Amaleena

As the name sound, 'Bohemian' offers a range of off track delicious dishes. Chef Joy Banerjee successfully presents you with novel and unique tastes in every single dish. As the Chef himself says "the fundamental truth is really about great food and not necessarily about what the cuisine is". He has gone beyond the horizon, inventing new dishes, new styles with ingredients used commonly in Bengali cuisine. He calls it Contemporary Bengal cuisine which is absolutely great!

I went there with m whole gang and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend dinner.

Benjarong - Review

By Amaleena

Hello friends,

Those of you love Thai food, this post is for you. Benjarong (at South City mall) provides the best Thai cuisine in the city. It might seem a pocket pinch, but trust me...its quite reasonable if you take into account their quantity and quality. Every dish has a unique flavor to invigorate your taste buds. I have been their twice and I keep on looking for opportunities to re-visit. They have buffet as well as a la carte. I went for the latter, both the times.

The first thing they serve you is the Thai appetizer. As you can see, it consists of blanched spinach leaves, onion, garlic, red chili, cashew nut, lemon, thinly chopped and fried coconut. At the center is a Thai sauce, which is to be applied of the spinach leaf and a piece of each ingredient is put on the leaf. You need to fold the leaf and put it in your mouth. Sort of a Thai 'paan' :P

Here is what we ordered:

Hed Yang

Basically consists of skewers of mushrooms, delicately marinated & grilled over lava grill, served with raw papaya salad
The taste is very unique. The mushrooms are well cooked and grilled optimally. The salad adds to the whole flavor
Price Rs 368/-

Tom Yam Soup                                                        I have had this soup in many places, but this is the best. I think it's better than that of ITC Sonar Bangla. The spice is just perfect and the soup is refreshing.                                                               The price is Rs 228/- for the chicken one.
Jasmine rice
A simple sticky white steamed rice

Vietnamese Chicken Curry in Coconut Gravy

This was my favourite. The chicken is cooked in spiced coconut cream. The whole thing has this creamy texture and perfectly compliments the Jasmine rice. Absolutely lip smacking.

Price - I don't remember

 Khao Pahd Sapparot

Pineapple flavoured Thai fried rice with choice of meat tossed with black raisins, water chestnut and cashew nuts.
The taste is awesome and the quantity is huge. 3 of us shared one plate of this and we were full.
Price Rs 368/- for the chicken one.

 Gai Tod Med Mamuang Himapah

Crispy fried chicken tossed with cashew nuts and dry red chillies.
It is crunchy yet soft. Moderately spicy.

Price Rs 448/-

The staff is very courteous and helps in deciding the menu. The decor is authentic Thai style. The first time I visited, they were serving Vietnamese cuisine for the day and the decor was adjusted accordingly, which was of course very good.
Overall, I rate Benjarong 5 out of 5
I love this place!!!
