Benjarong - Review

By Amaleena

Hello friends,

Those of you love Thai food, this post is for you. Benjarong (at South City mall) provides the best Thai cuisine in the city. It might seem a pocket pinch, but trust me...its quite reasonable if you take into account their quantity and quality. Every dish has a unique flavor to invigorate your taste buds. I have been their twice and I keep on looking for opportunities to re-visit. They have buffet as well as a la carte. I went for the latter, both the times.

The first thing they serve you is the Thai appetizer. As you can see, it consists of blanched spinach leaves, onion, garlic, red chili, cashew nut, lemon, thinly chopped and fried coconut. At the center is a Thai sauce, which is to be applied of the spinach leaf and a piece of each ingredient is put on the leaf. You need to fold the leaf and put it in your mouth. Sort of a Thai 'paan' :P

Here is what we ordered:

Hed Yang

Basically consists of skewers of mushrooms, delicately marinated & grilled over lava grill, served with raw papaya salad
The taste is very unique. The mushrooms are well cooked and grilled optimally. The salad adds to the whole flavor
Price Rs 368/-

Tom Yam Soup                                                        I have had this soup in many places, but this is the best. I think it's better than that of ITC Sonar Bangla. The spice is just perfect and the soup is refreshing.                                                               The price is Rs 228/- for the chicken one.
Jasmine rice
A simple sticky white steamed rice

Vietnamese Chicken Curry in Coconut Gravy

This was my favourite. The chicken is cooked in spiced coconut cream. The whole thing has this creamy texture and perfectly compliments the Jasmine rice. Absolutely lip smacking.

Price - I don't remember

 Khao Pahd Sapparot

Pineapple flavoured Thai fried rice with choice of meat tossed with black raisins, water chestnut and cashew nuts.
The taste is awesome and the quantity is huge. 3 of us shared one plate of this and we were full.
Price Rs 368/- for the chicken one.

 Gai Tod Med Mamuang Himapah

Crispy fried chicken tossed with cashew nuts and dry red chillies.
It is crunchy yet soft. Moderately spicy.

Price Rs 448/-

The staff is very courteous and helps in deciding the menu. The decor is authentic Thai style. The first time I visited, they were serving Vietnamese cuisine for the day and the decor was adjusted accordingly, which was of course very good.
Overall, I rate Benjarong 5 out of 5
I love this place!!!
